I was a couples counselor, but my marriage was on the rocks.

And I had tried everything.

My father had left when I was two years old and my two-year-old solution was to play with bride dolls.

And, at that same time, I made a fierce commitment that I would figure out how to be happily married.

This two-year-old commitment has stuck with me ever since.

  • I became a Harvard trained couples counselor.

  • I became a Debbie Ford Master Coach.

  • I published in professional psychology journals

  • I did many, many, many one-week silent meditation retreats.

  • Michael and I both trained in Compassionate Communication (AKA Non-violent Communication).

  • We tried couples counseling several times—including one famous therapist who was ridiculously, insanely expensive.

I had tried everything.

What was wrong? Had I married the wrong person? Was there something wrong with me?
